ALL AP STUDENTS SHOULD PLAN ON HAVING SEVERAL ONE-TO-ONE WRITING CONFERENCES THIS SEMESTER.

If you're in AP Literature, you're writing a literary term paper. You will find guidelines for how to organize, take notes, use parenthetical documentation,  create a title and Works Cited Page, formulate a hypothesis and sift through your critical research to discover what relevant to your thesis in the following places:

The Literature Resource Center. Choose research under GaleGroup at the DeBakey Library Website, which should be listed on your Guidelines for Writing the Critical Research Report.

Elements of Language 12th Grade Edition, pages 232-280.

Introduction to Literature, Chapter 34

The Bedford Reader. (Juniors will be carefully guided through the research process). If you're in English IV Magnet, then you will write your Critical Research Paper on Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe. Please keep up with the reading! That way you will not be overwhelmed as I begin to add assignments that build upon one another.

I'm no longer reading alternative texts to the gospels. I've searched them for what they have to offer and have found them sorely wanting.

In the last twenty years or so, I have noticed within myself a great distaste for what is now being called Zydeco? Music. The sound of the music, especially the accordian and fiddle are beautiful, but ofttimes the lyrics are vulgar and like most Rap, inappropriate for anyone of culture and grace. I challenge these artists to write something of substance, so that the sense matches the sound. The sound is a tribute to the people, but the words are an insult. Brian Jack are you listening? This young artist has the potential to be great like Clifton Chenier, and not just another mediocre local musician.
